For many years now, companies have been trying to integrate their employees’ families into their professional lives, notably during the Corporate Family Day, established in 2009 by the Observatory of Corporate Parenthood.

Family in the company, only 1 day a year?

Although the day of the family in companies is held on June 1st in order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, inclusion actions on this theme are often carried out at other times of the year.

Let’s think of the Christmas trees which allow the teams to share a friendly moment, perhaps receive gifts for the youngest, but above all to meet each other’s families in a warm and more informal atmosphere.

Apart from the end of year celebrations, what can be done to include the family axis of the employees in their company life?
What if you organized open days? Whether you are a small company, an international group or an industrial site, it is always interesting for your employees to visit their workplace and discover the purpose and missions of their work.

At the heart of internal communication and human resources, these actions are real drivers in the commitment of your teams. You can also discover your employees in a different light and give another dimension to your exchanges with them.

How do I go about it?

The organization of the events mentioned above as an example may require time depending on the scope of the event. It is therefore preferable to plan in advance and perhaps think about giving a recurrence to these actions so that you can anticipate their organization.
If you do not have teams available to carry out these events, there are a number of external service providers who can help you implement your action plan. Do not hesitate to ask!

Work-life balance

The health crisis has highlighted the need not to get caught up in one’s professional life at the expense of one’s personal life. Telecommuting over the past two years has helped, and more and more companies are offering a hybrid work arrangement.

However, telecommuting has shown its limits: many people report working outside of work hours when they are telecommuting. At a time when computers and business phones are not systematically left at the office, employees find it more difficult to “cut out”. The quality of work is thus put at risk, a poorly rested person is a person who will end up making a mistake. Working more to produce more? It is not certain that in the medium term (and even in the short term), this is viable.

Thus, in line with the search for work-life balance, the right to disconnect was introduced in 2017. The latter should guarantee that employees are not required to respond to professional solicitations, outside their working hours. Allowing employees to detach themselves from their professional obligations outside of normal working hours, the right to disconnect allows everyone to reconnect to their personal and family world.

Finally, to go even further in the preservation of the work-life balance, you can take a look at our Spanish, Belgian and English neighbors, who have introduced the 4-day week in order to test its advantages and limits.

Let’s close this article by saying that the most important thing in thinking, organizing and carrying out actions in favor of work/life balance is the quality of life of your employees.
