The World Environment Day takes place every year on June 05 and this since 1973.

It is one of the most important international days for the environment. It is run by the United Nations Environment Program and aims to raise awareness and celebrate environmental action.

This year, the day was organized by Sweden. The slogan they chose for this campaign is: #OneEarth to emphasize a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature.

The resources of our planet consumed too quickly

Indeed, it is important to “pamper” our beautiful blue planet, because as the slogan of this year indicates we have only “One Earth”.

Unfortunately, this is not really what we do, because for a number of years, we have been consuming all the resources that the Earth can regenerate in a year, in just a few months. We are therefore living on credit.

For example, in France, the day of overshoot* was reached this year on May 05, 2022.  This means that it would take 2.9 Earths for the French population to meet all its current needs.

*The overflow day marks the date from which, each year, we have consumed all the resources that the Earth can renew in one year. This date symbolizes the pressure exerted by humanity on the planet.

The main causes of the degradation of the passing day date are:

  • Deforestation ;
    Overfishing;
    Agricultural overexploitation;
    Our greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels.

Our planet in peril?

We must learn to live in a more sustainable way and in harmony with nature in order to preserve our one and only planet Earth. All the more so as it contains superb secrets! In particular, magnificent species and landscapes which are necessary to our ecosystem and which are more and more threatened every day because of human activity.

What to do on World Environment Day (and the rest of the year too!)

This World Environment Day encourages us to restore the balance with nature by making profound changes whether we are a citizen, a company (private or public sector), a community, etc… For the preservation of our Planet, but also of the ecosystems and living beings that live there (including us).

Although alarming, the advance of the day of passing and the progressive disappearance of animal and vegetable species, the Earth asks us, to each one, efforts, daily and on a larger scale. As Leo Robert Collier said “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day after day”. So let’s contribute, day by day, to making the Earth viable and sustainable.
